In this article we look at properties of the number one (1) regarding the four fundamental operations in mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. For all four operations, we will use the letter to represent a mathematical quantity. This quantity may be just a numerical value (like 6 and 39) or it could be an expression like , and it may have a sign either plus or minus.
