Four Basic Mathematical Operations

Here we look at the characteristics of four fundamental operations in mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These four operations are among the most fundamental operations in mathematics and are in fact all related to each other. For all four operations, we will use the letters and to represent mathematical quantities. These quantities may be just numerical values (like 4 and 32) or they could be expressions like . They may have signs (plus/minus) that are the same as or different from one another.
