Beegie Adair Dies at Age 84

I ’discovered’ Beegie Adair several years ago after I started using Pandora to listen to music streamed over the Internet. Since then, her easy style on the piano has made her one of my favorite artists on the keyboard. She passed away peacefully, we are told, on January 23, 2022, at her home in Franklin, Tennessee, one of the major cities in the Nashville metropolitan area. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Billy Adair, who was on the music faculty of Vanderbilt University until his death in 2014.

Beegie was born Bobbe Gorin Long on December 11, 1937, in Cave City, Kentucky. She began taking piano lessons at age 5 and continued studying piano and received her BS degree in music from Western Kentucky University. Over her more than six-decade career, she accompanied such legendary performers as Dolly Parton, Chet Atkins, Dinah Shore, Mama Cass Elliot, Peggy Lee, and others, and formed the Beegie Adair Trio which sold over 1.5 million albums ranging from pop standards and classics to jazz and Christmas songs.

Prescott’s (AZ) FM radio station KAHM frequently plays recordings by Beegie Adair.
